ASG-SmartTune
for Pinpointing and Resolving Issues that Impact Application Performance
ASG-SmartTune can be used to diagnose performance characteristics of poorly performing application programs. This, in turn, helps pinpoint areas that require tuning at the application code level. ASG-SmartTune runs on the z/OS operating system and can monitor application programs running in the CICS, DB2, and IMS environments. Overall, it can help your IT organization run more efficiently. Because it uses a low-impact sampling technology that runs with very low processor overhead, ASG-SmartTune can be used safely in both test and production environments. Administrators can set ASG-SmartTune to monitor a specific job step within a job or specific CICS or IMS transactions at scheduled times. Monitoring can be done in real time or data may be saved to a historical dataset for later analysis and review. ASG-SmartTune allows the user to see the performance information for all load modules that are active in the address space for the job or transaction. Individual load modules can be selected for deeper review. ASG-SmartTune allows the user to drill into individual CSECTs within the load module for a better understanding of how the program utilizes resources. At the CSECT level, ASG-SmartTune can view corresponding COBOL and PL/I source statements allowing the user to focus on the area of the program where significant resources are being consumed.
- Simplifies application tuning processes
- Analyzes real-time and historical data for faster problem resolution
- Able to monitor specific programs in the production systems with minimal-impact sampling
- Provides automated application monitoring with scheduling functions
- Helps to minimize unnecessary use of resources, including CPU time and I/O activity
- Isolates performance problems in existing applications
- Helps to improve online transaction response time for e-business applications and batch turnaround time
- Identifies code bottlenecks and impact of increasing workloads in testing
- Enables developers to drill down to and view actual lines of code that have significant utilization
