Enabling the Business Governance of Data

Date:01/28/2010

Data governance approaches in organizations today are often piecemeal at best. In the context of the enterprise data landscape they are managed, but often still have critical gaps. Enterprise metadata technology has been used successfully to bridge these gaps. However, at a technical level there still remains a nagging disconnect between business and technology users' understanding of key business concepts, which can leave the door open to other governance exposure. Data governance for IT that lacks input from the business will not prove successful; nor will governance for business without IT understanding.

In this podcast, Scott McCurdy, SVP of Business Solutions at ASG and featured guest Rob Karel, Principal Analyst at Forrester Research, discuss how enterprises are linking technical metadata to the formal management of business terms to achieve true enterprise data governance. They also discuss how metadata management and business glossaries can be a powerful first step in accelerating the success of data governance initiatives.
